New York CE Requirements:

  • Mandatory Continuing Education: New York State's Mandatory Continuing Education Law for the dental profession became effective January 1997. Practicing hygienists in New York State are required to take 24 credit hours every three years
  • Registered Dental Hygienists - 24 CE's for relicensure. 10 CE's can be home-study.
  • Hygienists are required to complete a course in Infection Control.
  • Licenses must be renewed every 3 years.

Course 1  Explore the Systemic Disease – Pharmacologic Connection

Recognize the commonalities between systemic conditions and oral disease

Become aware of the therapeutic value, mechanism of action, effects, risk vs. benefits of specific drugs encountered in dental hygiene practice
 
Distinguish between chemical, generic and brand name drugs

Understand the FDA drug approval process

Speaker:  Marilyn Cortell, RDH, BS, MS is an Associate Professor at New York City College of Technology. She is a fellow in the American Academy of Dental Hygiene, a Consultant Member for NERB, member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Access magazine and RDH magazine as well as a national and international lecturer

 

Course 2.  Preparing Oneself for the Handling of the Geriatric Patient

Understand the special needs of the geriatric population including Hypertension, Diabetes,  Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and Rheumatoid Arthritis

Become aware of the clinical considerations necessary to manage and treat   the elderly patient

Develop an acceptable achievable home care regime for the geriatric patient

Speaker:  Jane Weiner, RDH  (http://janewrdh.com) is an Informatics Specialist and Faculty member at Nova SE College of Dental Medicine, Ft.
