EXCELLENCE IN DENTAL HYGIENE
Infection Control-Infectious Disease Update and oral Pathology
This lecture will provide an update for oral healthcare providers on the current standard of care for infection control in the dental setting. The goal is to increase the oral healthcare provider’s ability to apply scientifically accepted principles of infection control to patient care and to reduce the transmission of bloodborne pathogens in the dental setting. The course fulfills the mandated infection control training required for renewal of the New York State professional license.
Speaker: Gwen Brown, DDS, FAAOMP
A researcher, educator and lecturer in the dental community, Dr. Brown is Associate Professor in the Dental Hygiene Dept. of New York City College of Technology. She lectures on a variety of topics and also speaks for the New York AIDS Institute/NYSDOH and the New York Dental Society.
The 4-C’s in Solving the Caries Puzzle
- CAMBRA
- Caries Detection & assessment system (ICDAS)
- Case-based protocol
- Calcium Phosphate and Fluoride
This course will introduce a “caries risk assessment” survey to enable the practitioner to identify and classify a patient’s risk for caries. Participants will be familiarized with the development a treatment plan based on the factors influencing the prevalence of caries. The role of the dental team in the management of caries will be discussed.

A licensed hygienist, educator, professional speaker and coordinator of Continuing Education at the University level, Ms Caperilla is a recent recipient of the ADHA Irene Newman Dental Hygiene Professional Leadership Award. She is featured in the December 2011 issue of Dimensions of Dental Hygiene.
